Bedford Schools
The Bedford Schools PFI includes the design, build, finance and maintenance of two academies in Central Bedfordshire: Samuel Whitbread Academy and Harlington Upper School.
Built on a combination of new and existing sites, the schools serve rural communities with modern educational facilities. The project became operational in 2006, and the concession runs until 2035.
Sustainability
Samuel Whitbread Academy integrates sustainability through research-led teaching and infrastructure planning with eco-friendly features like solar panels and EV chargers. Harlington Upper School runs an active Eco Warriors Club focused on biodiversity, litter picks, and energy awareness, and incorporates sustainability into its design & technology curriculum.
Both schools foster environmental awareness, with Harlington leaning on hands-on community projects and SWA emphasizing educational research and green planning.
