Rodenkirchen Schools

The Cologne Rodenkirchen PPP project involves the design, construction, financing, and maintenance of a new, integrated comprehensive school in Rodenkirchen. With a gross floor area of about 20,000 m², the facility includes modern classrooms, two sports halls, a cafeteria, and a pedagogical center.

Construction was completed by late 2009 and the concession runs 25 years, expiring November 2034.The facility’s capacity was increased over time from 1,200 to 1,600 pupils with full-day schooling arrangements.

In March 2023, the city added a separate expansion building and a new single‑gym hall on the adjacent site, featuring a spacious foyer and around 700 m² gym space. The new building was constructed to passive house standards, ensuring maximum energy efficiency and sustainability.

Sustainability

The project was built with energy efficiency as a key driver. The buildings feature high-end design, state-of-the-art rooms and environmentally friendly energy supply.

Energy efficiency is achieved through photovoltaic installation on the roof and parking for over 500 bicycles encourages non-carbon transportation.
