Mersey Gateway Bridge
The Mersey Gateway Bridge is an availability-based PPP near Liverpool. It involves the design, construction, financing, operation and maintenance of a 2.2 km dual three-lane bridge with a 1 km cable-stayed main span and approx. 9 km of access roads.
It also includes the implementation and testing of an end-to-end free-flow toll collection system across both the Mersey Gateway Bridge and Silver Jubilee Bridge.
Operational since October 2017 and officially opened by Her Majesty the Queen in June 2018, the bridge serves as a vital strategic transport route connecting the Liverpool city-region to the wider North West and beyond. The concession runs until March 2044.
Sustainability
The project operates an annual Timebank initiative that has been running for several years, demonstrating ongoing commitment to local community engagement. Each year, the programme receives applications from local schools, charities and voluntary organizations throughout the Halton area. This community-focused initiative enjoys strong support from local Halton residents and organisations, creating meaningful partnerships that deliver tangible benefits to the communities served by the Mersey Gateway Bridge.
