M1 Westlink

The M1 Westlink project is an availability-based PPP involving the design, upgrade, financing, operation and maintenance of 60 km of motorway and dual-carriageway, including associated infrastructure such as bridges, street lighting and safety barriers.

Key upgrades included widening of 4.5 km of the M1 and A12 to dual three-lane carriageway and grade separating three major junctions.

Additionally, a third lane was added along 5km of the M2, along with the construction of four new bridges.

The project enhances traffic flow and safety across a critical transport corridor in Northern Ireland.

Sustainability

A recent investment programme of approx. £1.2 million enabled the complete replacement of the network’s lighting with state-of-the-art LED systems featuring dimming and trimming capabilities.

This initiative is projected to save approximately 1.6 million kWh of electricity annually and reduce GHG emissions by approx. 8,000 tonnes over the remainder of the concession, which runs until 2036.
