Champlain Bridge
The Samuel de Champlain Bridge in Montreal, Quebec is a 3.4 km, six lane cable stay bridge that spans the St. Lawrence River, replacing the original Champlain Bridge. It features a two-lane transit corridor now adapted for the Réseau Express Métropolitain light rail system, and a 4 m wide multi-use path for pedestrians and cyclists.
The project also includes upgrades to 5 km of the A10 and A15 autoroutes and four interchanges along the corridor.
Delivered via a public-private partnership between the Government of Canada and Signature on the Saint-Lawrence, the bridge opened in 2019 and is designed for a 125-year lifespan. The concession runs until 2049.
Sustainability
The bridge earned ENVISION® Platinum certification for sustainable infrastructure, the first large-scale bridge in Canada to do so.
Key features include recycled materials use, stormwater treatment systems, and a focus on long-term durability to reduce future emissions. Active mobility lanes promote sustainable transport options year-round.
