M80 Motorway

The M80 Motorway project is an availability-based PPP/PFI project involving the design, construction, financing, operation, and maintenance of 18 km of dual two- and three-lane motorway between Stepps in North Lanarkshire to Haggs in Falkirk, Scottland.

The project included 8 km of offline new-build motorway and 10 km of online works upgrades to widen existing M80. Works involved 63 new and modified structures and seven interchanges, including a major junction with the M73.

The project addressed a critical gap in Scotland’s motorway network by converting the last non-motorway stretch of the M80, improving connectivity between Glasgow and Dunblane.

Sustainability

The motorway supports sustainable economic activity by reducing delays and improving travel time reliability and enhanced road safety. The average journey time decreased from 19 to 14 minutes. These improvements contribute to lower vehicle emissions and more efficient freight movement across the region.
