A1/A6 Motorway
The A1/A6 Motorway project is an availability-based PPP involving the design, build, finance and maintenance of 18km of motorway infrastructure south-east of Amsterdam, forming part of the critical Schiphol-Amsterdam-Almere corridor.
The project involved re-routing and widening the A1 (to 2×5 lanes with two reversible lanes), expanding the A6 to four lanes in each direction with reversible capacity, rebuilding two major interchanges, and constructing new bridges and an aqueduct.
The enhanced infrastructure significantly improves traffic flow and connectivity for one of the Netherlands’ busiest economic corridors, serving Schiphol Airport, Amsterdam, and the growing Almere region.
Sustainability
The project’s reversible lane system optimizes land use and reduces environmental impact while efficiently managing traffic flow.
All, c.2,000 traditional streetlights were replaced with LEDs, reducing annual electricity consumption by approx. 525,000kWh. This lowered the project’s carbon footprint by at least 350 metric tonnes per year.
