Last Friday, the Blankenburg Tunnel consortium in The Netherlands received the Completion Certificate from the Client, Rijkswaterstaat, formally marking the end of the project’s realisation phase.
Since construction began in 2018, the project has developed into an important new connection between the A20 and A15, including the Maasdeltatunnel (1000-meter immersed tunnel) and the Hollandtunnel (500-meter land tunnel). Following the opening of the A24 to traffic in December 2024, the remaining works have now been completed, bringing the project to this significant milestone.
This achievement is first and foremost the result of the close collaboration between Rijkswaterstaat, the shareholders BBGI and HICL, the construction partners Ballast Nedam and DEME, and the many teams and specialists who have contributed to the project over the past several years. Infrastructure projects of this scale are only possible through strong partnerships, shared expertise and a long-term commitment from everyone involved.
