Victorian Correctional Facilities

The Victorian Correctional Facilities project is a 25-year availability-based PPP between the State of Victoria and the Victorian Correctional Infrastructure Partnership. It includes the design, build, finance, maintenance, and provision of limited security and infrastructure services for two correctional sites.

The Metropolitan Remand Centre (MRC), a maximum-security facility in Ravenhall, accommodates up to 1,006 men in custody, while the Marngoneet Correctional Centre (MCC), a medium-security facility in Lara, houses up to 559 men in custody. Expansion works under the State’s Prison Infill Expansion program will boost capacity to 1,210 beds at MRC and 609 at MCC, with works at MCC completed in 2024 and MRC works ongoing.

Sustainability

Both facilities were designed with an emphasis on durability, energy efficiency, and rapid construction, utilising energy efficient precast precast concrete walls to enhance thermal regulation. This innovative design improves inmate comfort while reducing energy consumption for heating and cooling.

The Portfolio Company, along with FM Contractor, continues to actively monitor energy performance throughout the concession, identifying opportunities to further reduce emissions.
