Burg Correctional Facilities

The Burg Correctional Facility project in Saxony-Anhalt is Germany’s first availability-based PPP in the custodial sector and one of the country’s few fully integrated PPPs in social infrastructure.

The project includes design, build, operation, and maintenance of a high-security correctional facility. The site features four accommodation blocks, a healthcare unit, a library, four workshops, a gym, and an outdoor sports area.

Delivered on a turnkey basis in under 2.5 years, the facility became operational in 2009, with the concession running until 2034.

Sustainability

The facility was built to achieve all environmental regulations at the time. With an optimised and more environmentally friendly heating, the system was equipped with conventional gas heaters and a wood chip heater.

Electricity and heat contracting are important performance indicators for the project.
