The Royal Women’s Hospital operates the Women’s Staff Scholarship program to support professional development across the hospital. The program provides scholarships for nurses, midwives, allied health clinicians, administrative teams and consumer representatives to pursue advanced study, training and leadership opportunities.
Healthcare practice continues to evolve. Providing high-quality care depends on hospital teams having access to current clinical knowledge, specialist training and leadership development.
The Royal Women’s Hospital’s Women’s Staff Scholarship Program helps nurses, midwives, allied health clinicians, administrative teams, and patient and community representatives pursue further study and professional development that may otherwise be difficult to access.
Previous recipients have undertaken specialist learning in areas including early-pregnancy ultrasound, infant mental health, developmental psychiatry, sexual and reproductive health, maternity care and leadership development.
The value of this support can be seen in the opportunities it creates. In 2023, for example, a scholarship was awarded to the hospital’s Newborn Intensive Care Unit team to undertake bereavement training informed by the lived experience of parents who had lost a baby. The training was intended to strengthen the support provided to families experiencing grief and loss.
From 2026 to 2028, BBGI, through its Portfolio Company, together with Cushman & Wakefield and ISS Facility Services, will contribute a combined A$30,000 each year to the program. This represents a total commitment of A$90,000 over three years.
Expanding access to professional development
The scholarship program has grown in recent years. In 2023, nine donors provided A$77,300 for study in 2024, with the hospital reporting that 23 scholarships were presented.
In 2025, 13 donors provided A$116,700 to support 31 scholarships for study in 2026. Individuals and teams are pursuing development opportunities in areas including trauma-informed care, leadership, data analytics and simulation training.
By helping recipients access specialist learning and apply new knowledge within their roles, the program is intended to strengthen professional capability and support the care provided to women, babies and families.
The commitment forms part of BBGI’s wider partnership with The Royal Women’s Hospital and supports professional development across clinical, operational and administrative teams.
When we invest in our people, we invest in better health outcomes for the women, babies and families we serve.
