Chinook Roads Partnership has implemented several environmental initiatives across South East Stoney Trail, including the conversion of site lighting to LED. The full LED lighting conversion was completed in Q2 2025, one year ahead of schedule.
The conversion is expected to reduce power consumption, reduce waste from bulb replacements, reduce maintenance exposure for workers and generate cost savings above plan. Chinook Roads Partnership has also replaced a site vehicle with a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle and installed a charging station.
Additional environmental initiatives are under review or in development. These include a proposal to replace diesel light towers and generators with solar units for overnight works, and a project to use an overflow pond for brine production to reduce reliance on local well water and reduce the need for vac-truck discharge to storm drains.
- In 2025, Chinook Roads Partnership also installed an on-site beehive as part of a “Save the Bees” initiative, with the first honey received in Q3 2025.
- The asset also supported local community organisations through donations, including C$5,000 to the Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society and C$5,000 to the Tsuut’ina First Nation Healing Lodge.
